I have to admit i was one of those teens who were on the whole retro web shit starting in 2020. I think around 23 I stopped using those sites because I kinda just grew out of it (and also spacehey started getting spammed with gore and cp) and I really haven't thought about them until recently. im an adult now and most social media sites have become shit and i've been searching for new places to replace instagram and twitter/bluesky. I found another myspace clone called friendrewind, now yes it still has some of those kids who wanna pretend they are living in another decade but most people i've interacted with on that site and most of the blogs that are on there are just people who are talking about their lives and shit. I also found this old forum site called something awful, it's mostly dead only having around 200,00 members but I joined to pay tribute to the site that supposedly made slenderman and garrys mod. I got a newgrounds account where i post my art, thats pretty much it for that site. i've made my own neocities site, it actually taught me html and ccs. and then there's this site, im still trying to find a BBS, imageboard type site thats not cp or racism and im still iffy about it. anyway, thats my two cents

I think the second post is right, only the death of the main popular BBSes can bring users. The drawn character imageboard gained a lot of users after one of their own hacked the clover website.
If someone claiming to be from here hacks the clover website and unearths the 2003 drama between w2ch and 4chan about who's the first english BBS, world2ch will be #1 the same day.

if u want a reccomendation for a better version of twitter/bluesky then id reccomend trying out smaller mastodon/plemora instances. theres still a lot of place on there that ccan be kinda annoying and petty imo but its leagues better than twitter or glowsky because theres actual donation led or non for profit instances behind it (its decentralised also, so you can self host, PROPERLY not like the bluesky version of it ya)

About a month ago, my 10-year-old son accidentally committed suicide when he followed instructions he saw online on a game called Roblox. There was a detailed list of instructions that claimed to make "DIY crystals" but turned out to be chlorine gas. Is there any way I can get the police to charge this murderer with ruining my life and killing my son? My friends suggested I ask around before I pay for a lawyer.

First off, I am so sorry about your loss. This sounds taxing on your family, and the user above is highly insensitive for posting something so informal.
I think you should show police what exactly your son saw, so you can prove that whoever posted that did so maliciously. Explain how your son followed the instructions and ended up killing himself. Did this person communicate privately with your son, or was it public? If it is public you should report this.
Depending on the scenario you might not even need to buy a lawyer because it sounds like your son was tricked into killing himself. That is a federal crime if you're in the United States.
There are several lawsuits against Roblox right now because of wrongful death, but I am concerned about a big detail you overlooked. You could be prosecuted for negligence yourself because you allowed your son to make the poison in your home unsupervised, depending on the scenario. After reading about Roblox for this thread, I feel like you could be partially responsible.
OP is referring to a 4chan copypasta, this would be impossible to prosecute because there is no known original poster since 4chan is anonymous. It would take lawyers years of fighting Roblox to see who posted the content only to trace it back to 4chan. It's pointless.
OP here, I logged into Roblox and navigated the very confusing UI, I found a history so I clicked the last game he played and it said something about the game being deleted for "violating TOS" and I can only assume it was the crystal game. He told me he found an expirement he wanted to try so I let him do it, in retrospect I should have asked for an ingredient list because if I had known it was going to make chlorine gas I would have stopped him and warned him before this happened.
This case is legally hopeless, to prove he died because of roblox you would need to directly connect how the platform resulted in his death (wrongful death lawsuit) and then connect it to how the platform either caused or allowed it to happen. The user could be held responsible if you get police to subpeona Roblox but that would be expensive to do and they might question you on negligence for allowing him to do the expirement without you first checking it.
This sounds terrible, and I foster great empathy for what you have gone through. I would advise therapy, as it would be a good option considering the magnitude of the situation.
I think you should contact the police for that, not an attorney, there might be a criminal charge you can pursue. Simply tell police that you suspect someone instructed your son on how to kill himself and they will go from there.
Definitely report to the police, they can help pursue criminal charges on the guy who instructed your son to accidentally commit suicide. Send them a link to the Roblox game (called "experience") and a screenshot of the thumbnail and category. Demonstrate it is (presumably) rated safe for kids but contains explicit instructions to make chlorine gas.
Would you ever consider doing away with frames for site navigation? I have an idea that I'll implement as a userscript to demonstrate.

Sometimes depending on the file, if it is encoded weird there will be an error message that says nothing but the [Return] button. Perhaps it should direct to "file not supported" until it can accept them.

I've encountered this recently. I tried to post a JPG, and it didn't like it. Upon further investigation, the file that I had downloaded was named with a ".jpg" at the end, but it was actually a WebP file. (The site I downloaded it from LIED!) Anyway, the imageboard software doesn't know what to do with WebP files and returned an error.
There are a handful of upgrades that could be made to the world2ch experience using JS. The most obvious one is an auto-update option for the boards, but I just thought of another one.
Post dates should be localized to the user. On top of localizing post dates, I think we should also have a Unix timestamp -> local timestamp system on all boards. The way we could implement this is by using a <time> tag on all of the site time stamps.
Users could add their own timestamps in-post by using something that resembles <ts:(UNIX TIMESTAMP)>. This would then be converted into a <time> stamp that, by default, is localized to the server's time, which then can be picked up by the JS. This provides users the option to add time stamps that should remain relevant to every user seeing the post. A good example of a place where this would be very useful is in the watchparty threads, since we already post the Unix timestamp as is.
Though I'd settle with JUST the date and time getting localized, I'd also like to include things like "in X minutes" or various other styles of displays. We can add an additional field (IE: <ts:(UNIX TIMESTAMP):(BEHAVIOR)>, so we can say, <ts:0:c> for a count of how many minutes since January 1st, 1970 12:00 AM GMT) to provide this flexibility to the user. The behavioral information can be stored in a data-* attribute in the time tag.
If you'd like, I can write the JavaScript required to localize the <time> stamps, and implementing the timestamp behavior on the oekaki and the imageboard, but the backend work for Kareha will have to be left to you.
