I recently picked back up Ocelot again(https://ocelot.fomalhaut.me/desktop) and I was wondering... could World2ch reasonably create an OpenComputers OS? Or are we all MIT undergrads?
I could start by making a basic kernel+bootloader, and submitting it here. I'd only do it if there's interest in trying this project though.
I'm sure there are a few here who could contribute, but what would be gained from making an OS?
>what could be gained from making an OS?
What couldn't be gained from making an OS? I'm offering this idea as a fun little project we could all do together. It's nothing too serious, and that's the point, although I'd be happy to see how far we could take it. Perhaps we could even get a World2ch browser on it and shitpost from there? :P
I actually started making the kernel after I posted this. I've made okay progress but I'm not sure how to approach drivers quite yet. I've got other things to do so progress is slow.
What is OpenComputers? I thought it was some sort of 'virtual' architecture, but it has something to do with minecraft?
Both are correct. It is a mod for Minecraft that allows to create Lua programmable computers. It differs to ComputerCraft in that it's "lower end" than it, having different memory tiers you put in computer cases and forcing you to write code to interact with the components.
Ocelot(linked in the OP) is OpenComputers without Minecraft. It's just more convenient if you want to fuck with it.
I wasn't kidding about the w2ch browser, by the by. The interwebs card you can put in the computer case allows you to make HTTPS requests, including sending POST data. You could reasonably make a web browser in OpenComputers, though the lack of bitmaps does complicated matters.
>w2ch browser
I'd like to finish the one someone here started before anything else actually, since it looked like it was nearing completion. Not sure what happened to it.
We had one that was nearing completion? First I've heard of it. Did he release screenshots or something?
I think the image was on the old imageboard but it's been wiped
