I hate computers, the Internet, and phones beyond anything capable of plain basic calling and texting. Been staring into glowing rectangles nearly 35 years and I'm so sick and tired of this unreality wherein I feel entrapped despite no walls and I could at any time even before I finish writing this post get up and walk towards the nearest forest and keep going until I find a cave and live the rest of my life there and start picking berries and trapping quail and collecting rain water and filtering stream water through gravel and charcoal for clean drinking.
I'm more and more craving a retraux Henry David Thoreau lifestyle (not Uncle Ted, I don't plan to hurt anyone but myself): living in a cabin innawoods onnamount spending my days chopping wood and carrying well water, raising chickens and sheep and miniature cattle for food and clothing, fishing, gardening, having fun hiking up snowy peaks, and bicycling besides great lakes, and camping in haunted abandoned locations at night with a primitive camera that has no wireless connection whatsoever.
Hell, I might even still use the Internet at this point, but I'd try to stick to digital technology no later than the 1980's, like running my own server with its own BBS and IRC and usenet "sites" on an IBM with FreeDOS, Commodore 64, Tandy Deskmate, TRS-80, Apple Lisa, or if I can get my hands on one a Xerox Alto for maximum retro computing. I'd never use a phone besides one that connects satellite only and does plain basic texting and calling ONLY. If I need a GPS I'll get a satellite-only analog one that does GPS and only GPS.
I want to embrace the UNIX software philosophy to my hardware: one simple tool that does one simple task, but does that one task masterfully every single time, and will not degrade for the rest of my life. I'd do the same with ovens, refrigerators, washers and dryers, central heating and cooling, and even light bulbs from at most the 1970's but preferably as far back as the 1940's to be assured of long-lasting reliability.
But if I can do anything without advanced tech, like store fresh meat in a covered pot buried in the dirt floor of my pantry during winter so it doesn't spoil, I will. If I can can or mason jar my own fermented fruits and veggies without needing to keep them cold, I will. If it worked for my forefathers and foremothers 150, 500, 1500, 25000 years ago that's what I'll do. My ancestors will smile upon me, mongrel, can you say the same?
Anything that does not need to be online, won't. All connections will be wired, to airgapped devices only -- and I may even Faraday Cage them all within in a small shack with many layers of copper foil lining every square inch inside and out! Wouldn't that be aesthetic as fuark in a post-apocalypse Mad Max / Fallout / RLCraft: Dregora way?
For example a camera that I can pull the images off, or convert to digital files, and with a USB or HDMI or whatever they used in the 80's or 90's. Then burn them to a CD-RW, DVD-RW, even a Bluray-RW if needed, or just a 5' or 3.5" floppy if I only have a little bit to transfer to a device with an Internet connection (but no way to access the world wide web: primitive and simple but rock-solid reliable digitech like BBS, IRC, and usenet only!) and THEN share whatever photos or videos or text files with the outside world I please in between the hiking, biking, camping, and urbex as time-passing hobbies instead of vidya -- well okay, maybe I'll get an old SNES and IBM with FreeDOS to relive my childhood, and try out ancient Atari and Commodore 64 and other systems with games either before my time or I missed out because I only had SNES rentals and MS-DOS Apogee sharewares as a young kid.
But for the most part I want to more and more distance myself from glowing rectangles, keyboards, buttons, knobs, levers, and switches. I want to bathe myself in nature the majority of my time, to heal my soul of a lifetime of addictions to computers, video games, the Internet, especially the modern World Wide Web which has become a dumpster fire of Hollywood-esque and Cable TV-like middle-school clique popularity contests, enabling clinically psychopathic and malignant narcissistic behaviors like "keeping up with the Jones's" and sociopathic corporate-/social-ladder-climbing across modern social media* and has now spilled out and infected meme and troll anticulture/counterculture the whole first world and now third world nations too with the likes of freely donated Chromebooks, Fire Tablets, Motorola Androids, and free Internet cafes and Starbucks/McDonalds/Kmart wifi hotspots even in poverty-stricken countries like Syria, India, and Venezuela.
The whole of modern civilization is doomed unless more of us #WalkAway from Big Tech and Big Social and crony-corporatism outpowering their host governments (I believe capitalism and even a touch of socialism only works if strictly regulated, put on a tight leash by a strong militia of we the people; free-market extremism and anarcho-capitalism always turns into crony-corporatism and behaves with the untouchable influence of feudalist monarchy; strong central governments like fascism, national socialism, and hereditary monarchy also always leads to the same antihuman collectivistic totalitarianism of power-mad mortal tyrants and nanny-states eventually!) and become:
More grounded, down to earth after bringing all our heads from the clouds (especially the Internet kinds!), all-natural, self-sufficient, self-defending, and self-actualizing: bowing down never to other flawed humans like Carl Jung or Lao-Tzu or Alan Watts or even the Buddha, but only principles like Zen or Tao or God or Ultimate Ground Of Being/Consciousness/Transcendence or Panentheism; becoming fully spiritual if not wholly religious as we turn our backs not on science (as a tool we all use, for we are all scientists; not as a god most nowadays pray to the white lab coat and horn-rimmed glasses genie "the experts" for intercession of knowledge and [anti-] progressivism) but "the science" and such slang as scientism, scientistry, scientody, especially the irrational and ahistoric atheists, and anti-human humanists and unreasonable logic-worshipers, and so on and so forth!
- (Which as it turned out became the exact opposite of what the giant corporations and marketeers promised us -- as is almost always the case with businessmen and shareholders -- to change the Internet from a place of connecting and sharing data to connecting and sharing people and socializing; which is absolutely not what happened! we are all more divided and suspicious and antisocial and behave as if we're all suddenly afflicted with acquired pseudo-autism and pseudo-ADHD on steroids! mass formation psychosis and always-on always-in-your-pocket phone and Internet connections [which has proven to disconnect us from those around us and from the natural world especially] is driving us all mad, nihilistic, fatalistic, solipsistic, and legitimately murderous!)
